This year will definitely be different for me - with the car in a nice warm garage, there's nothing to stop me now! Well, I say that...

WELCOME TO THE HOME OF THE AC BUCKLAND PROJECT

Three years ago, we embarked on a long restoration of a 1953 AC Buckland, registration PAR 419. This website tells the history of our car and documents the process of slowly getting her back on the road. Regular updates can be found on the BLOG postings below and comments are welcome on what we are doing.

MORE GOODWOOD NEWS

Funny how random searches can turn up the strangest of details. Browsing the internet for AC Buckland (just in case anything new comes up), and I stumble across a listing that confirms that Harold Day DID race the AC at Goodwood. It was 25 July 1953 and he was participating in the National Goodwood Handicap. Five laps and he finished fourth out of six with a time of 12:03.200. Unfortunately there is no reference to the registration of the car, but as he was the first owner, it certainly seems to… Continue

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

After days of ice and snow, things finally thawed enough to allow us to move the AC out of the portable garage and into the lovely wood-framed building at my Father-in-law's house. So now I can work in the warm and dry and the car will be at more of a constant temperature which will be better in the long run. To check the frame alignment, I have also temporarily re-attached the stripped panels and everything looks good. With all other projects out of the way (apart from the BSA which still looms… Continue

NO AC FOR THATCHAM

It is with sadness that I admit defeat - it doesn't look like our AC Buckland is going to make it to the Thatcham Classic show this year. It's a shame, but quite frankly, the car just isn't in a fit state to be put into the public eye just yet and I think it is better to carry on working towards a suitable debut rather than not be happy with it. Apologies if anyone was planning on coming to see the car, but if any of you have ever carried out a restoration, I hope you will understand. There's al… Continue

My photo

I have just accessed the site, having been told about it by my sister, Pat Cudby, nee Day.

Imagine my surprise to realise that the photo at the top of the PAR 419 Buckland is of me, aged 18 or 19 at Brands Hatch in my father's car. It was a sprint meeting and I put up best time of the day for the ladies but didn't win as they had a secret handicap that was the best time between practice and run! I had gone all out on the practice!

The car did, indeed, have three drivers: my father Harold Day,… Continue

A LINK TO THE PAST

I have been aware for some time that first owner, Harold Day shared the competitive driving of PAR 419 with George Grigs - founding member of the AC Owners' Club. A chance conversation with the owner of a fabulous Jaguar Special built for Colonel Rixon Bucknall re-ignited a link between that and the Buckland. George was the Colonel's passenger on his 'shakedown' trip to the Alps and took some fantastic pictures ( http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=140&t=686153&i=220&m… Continue
